Belkin TuneBase Direct with Hands-Free
$70.00
Released June, 2009
The TuneBase Direct is a hands-free iPhone accessory from Belkin. This mounting dock uses a vertical pressure clip system instead of a traditional mounting tray. This means the users’ iPhone is supported by an adjustable gooseneck mount extending from the vehicle’s 12-volt lighter outlet.

The audio-out connection allows users to hear both music and phone calls through the vehicle’s speaker system. The system relies on the iPhone’s built-in microphone to pick up the driver’s voice. Alternatively, one can use a cassette tape adapter if their vehicle does not have a built-in headphone (auxiliary) jack. A spare USB port has been integrated into the dock so multiple devices can be charged simultaneously. The general consensus indicates that audio quality is generally better than competing Bluetooth devices, but the fact that the TuneBase Direct must rely on the iPhone’s built-in microphone limits the user’s outgoing voice volume. The Belkin TuneBase Direct with Hands-Free has an MSRP of $69.99.
