Belkin TuneBase FM with Hands-Free
$100.00
Released July, 2009
The Pros:Best for people with no auxiliary input on their car stereo systems. Allows users to play their iPod tunes over their car stereo system via the radio. Includes secondary USB port for charging other USB-chargeable devices.
The Cons:Relies on the iPhones microphone for hands-free calling - limits the clarity / volume of the outgoing voice. Using FM to transmit music signal is dirty - will run into static, competing stations, etc... TuneBase Direct is a better, cheaper alternative for those with auxiliary stereo inputs.
The TuneBase FM is a hands-free iPhone accessory from Belkin. This mounting dock uses a vertical pressure clip system instead of a traditional mounting tray. This means the users’ iPhone is supported by an adjustable gooseneck mount extending from the vehicle’s 12-volt lighter outlet.

The device connects wirelessly to an in-car FM radio, allowing both music and phone calls to be heard through the vehicle’s speaker system. The TuneBase FM uses “ClearScan” technology, a feature that will automatically find the strongest FM station for the device to use. A spare USB port has been integrated into the dock so multiple devices can be charged simultaneously. The general consensus indicates that audio quality is generally better than competing Bluetooth devices, but the fact that the TuneBase FM must rely on the iPhone’s built-in microphone limits the user’s outgoing voice volume. The Belkin TuneBase FM with Hands-Free has an MSRP of $99.99.
