The Cons:No control over the file names, and they change when transferred from the device to the PC. Tends to pick up background noise very well, difficult to cut it out.

The DS-50 is a digital voice recorder from Olympus' DS series.  The recorder features a high-sensitivity stereo microphone which can be detached for portability and also has a monoaural microphone for monoaural recordings.

  It is designed with a monochrome backlit LCD display for controlling the functons and is compact and lightweight, at only 2.8 oz.  The device is an upgrade to the DS-40 since it includes 1GB of internal flash memory that provides up to 275 hours of recording time.  The DS-50 includes noise cancellation technology and a voice-activated Variable Control Voice Actuator feature which automatically records once it hears sound to save memory and battery life.  It also offers file editing and management and can function as a flash drive.  The recorder comes with DSS player software and has a suggested retail price of $300.
