The Pros:Recordings sound good. Records directly into MP3 format - up to 192kbps. 1GB of built-in flash storage for 11 hours of recording at top quality (192kbps), 17 hours at second highest quality (128kbps).
The Cons:Small size - difficult to use if you have larger hands, miniature display may be difficult to read. Confusing menus. Uses AAA batteries vs swappable / internal lithium-ion battery packs.
The Sony ICD-UX71 is an MP3- and WMA-compatible Digital Voice Recorder featuring 1GB flash memory for recording up to 287 hours of audio in LP mode. Although it does not record MP3 or WMA content, it does playback these audio formats (ID Tag supported) up to 18 hours, per storage space.

Included also are stereo headphones, which essentially turn the unit into a portable MP3 player. As for dictation, the ICD-UX71 records in up to 5 formats, allows for PC connectivity for transferring files, and also supports voice operated recording (VOR)—recordings are automatically stopped during pauses, and then begins recording again when the conversation resumes.
Additional Information
The Sony ICD-UX71 is a superior to the Sony ICD-UX70 in that it adds along WMA playback.
